9 TV series I watched in 2020
2020 gave us the opportunity to improve our knowlegde in…TV series! Being locked at home for several weeks (and even months) means that you have to find something to do when you have already accomplished your daily goals or simply you wish to relax.
Here you can find what I watched during the pandemic (SPOILERS!):
On the top of my chart I must mention one of my favourite TV shows ever: Arrow! Indeed, I watched the very last season in March and I felt completely devasted after the huge Oliver’s sacrifice. Felicity also sacrifices her life to be with her beloved Oliver forever, and I mean literally forever. Arrow’s ending was really a hard pill to swallow.
The Flash was also a series that I continued watching last year and I am waiting for the new episodes. Poor Barry, who does not recognize his wife is not his wife. As you may perceive, I am a fan of DC series, which means that I crave for the new episodes of Legends of Tomorrow, too. I have a lot of fun watching the legends’ personal problems and how they hilariously cope with the mess they themselves create and solve. Hashtag #neverajoy for poor Nate, who eventually finds love…and she has to live in a magic totem.
Another series I love is the cynical, critical, and self-centered Young Sheldon. The way the show joins the typical naivety of a young boy together with his incredible intelligence and his awkard friendliness, is simply amazing!
Last year I also started Vikings, which I enjoyed a lot. However, I do think that Ragnar’s death at the end of the fourth season marks a really significant change in the development of the following seasons. Indeed, the story then develops by narrating the adventures of Ragnar’s sons, and this is why I would have changed the title from the fifth season on. However, I am still recovering from Aethelstan’s death, which occurs at the end of the third season, if I’m not wrong. Currently I am watching the very last episodes of the final season, and I am a little bit disappointed by Bjorn’s departure, even though it is legendary! I also think that these Vikings are quite predictable: They get married whoever and whenever they want; if they don’t fight and kill each other, they fight for other lands; when they conquer other territories, they always rape women; they do not respect any rules. Eventually, they turn mad and they die, or they simply die. Ragnar turned mad, as he could not cope with two different religions; Floki killed our favourite Northumbrian monk; Ivar proclaimed himself as a God and killed his wife; Ragnar’s sons started fighting and killing each other; Oleg (ok, he is not a Viking, but he is a main character of the series, isn’t him?) became a fool as well and died thinking he is Jesus. Why not writing something new for the plot that could be more persuading?
After Vikings, I watched The Witcher, which songs are now an ear worm to me. Jaskier has indeed a really good voice, and he is simply a great annoying friend! Even though Geralt of Rivia’s most famous quotes are: “Mmmmh!” and “F*ck!” I think he his a great and loyal man. How about is relationship with Yennifer? Who knows…
During the second Italian lockdown, last November, I watched Game of Thrones. Yes, I know what you’re thinking, I watched it only last year. Poor Sean Astin, whose character has always to die, and I think it’s a pity that Lord Stark manages only the first season. One of my favourite characters is surely Tyrion Lannister, a man who is little in size, but huge in words and intelligence. I also consider “You’re worse than a Lannister!” as a new way to insult people. I appreciated Daenerys during the first seasons, but I really didn’t like how she turned cruel (why killing Lord Varys?) and the eighth season is something really disappointing. As a matter of fact, I was really happy when Joffrey and Ramsay get what they deserve. Another character worth mentioning is surely Lady Brienne of Tarth, a woman I really empathize and identify with. And what about Sansa and Arya Stark? They become two badass, finally!
I also started watching The Handsmaid’s Tale, but thanks to Amazon Prime, I stopped it at the first season, as the other seasons were not (I have to check now) available. Honestly, don’t watch this series if you’re in a bad mood. It can be quite shocking to see how women could be handled. Nevertheless, it is remarkable to understand that that future does not seem very far from our world. Dystopian, but I hope such a thing will never happen.
Last but not least…Bridgerton! After whole Instagram was talking about it, I decided to give it a chance. I watched the entire eight episodes in only two days. The plot is not something really impressive, but the Duke of Hastings…and how about Anthony Bridgerton? Dresses, hair, settings, simply stunning! If you’re looking for something not very demanding but still pleasant, than I suggest you to watch it!
